So you want to see Saskatchewan?

We can’t all be lucky like Heather and grow up in Moose Jaw, SK (my family moved to Winnipeg from there many years ago, so I unfortunately missed that opportunity), but we can all appreciate a road trip across the plains.

While it’s not recommended to explore SK during the winter like us, Saskatchewan is a province with a diverse landscape and rich history, offering many opportunities for adventure and discovery on a road trip. Here are some of the highlights:

  1. Grasslands National Park: This park in southwestern Saskatchewan is one of the last remaining native grasslands in North America, offering unique wildlife viewing opportunities, including bison and pronghorns, as well as hiking and camping.

  2. Athabasca Sand Dunes Provincial Park: Located in the northern part of the province, this park features vast sand dunes, forests, and lakes, making it a great destination for outdoor activities like hiking, camping, and wildlife viewing.

  3. Regina: The provincial capital, Regina offers a rich history and culture, as well as attractions such as the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, the Saskatchewan Science Centre, and the MacKenzie Art Gallery. Regina also has some FIRE breweries!

  4. Moose Jaw: This city is known for its rich history, including its association with the Underground Railroad and its connection to the Prohibition era. Visitors can explore tunnels and historic sites, as well as visit the Tunnels of Moose Jaw, a museum that brings this history to life. Heather was also raised here so that counts for something.

  5. Fort Battleford National Historic Site: This site in western Saskatchewan offers a glimpse into the history of the North-West Mounted Police and the early settlement of the province.

  6. Churchill River Canoe Route: This scenic canoe route in northern Saskatchewan offers the opportunity to explore the wilderness and see wildlife such as moose, beavers, and loons.

  7. Saskatoon: This city in central Saskatchewan is known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, as well as its beautiful parks and gardens, such as the Meewasin Valley and the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park. We’re also hosting a collab in Toontown!

These are just a few of the many attractions across Saskatchewan that you can see on a road trip. Whether you're interested in outdoor adventures, history, or urban exploration, this province has something to offer.

Follow along on our trip to see all of the highlights of this great province!
